Ways to Change a Wedding Dress by Season

In these ever-changing times of canceled weddings and special events, brides not only have to change their wedding date, but they are having to find creative ways to make seasonal changes to their wedding dresses. This means if a bride was originally hosting a spring or summer wedding and is now hosting a fall or winter wedding, she may need or want to find ways to change her wedding dress to match her new wedding date.

When changing the date of your wedding due to unforeseen circumstances, brides deserve and should still wear the dress of their dreams, even if it is a summer elopement style dress and they are now hosting a wedding in January. A change in season should never make a woman start over and shop for a brand new dress. While the temperature may be different, there are ways to update a dress and bring it into the next season with you.

To help the brides who are changing their wedding date and want to make changes to their wedding dress, Jamie O’Neill, former Fashion Director at The Bridal Finery has shared with you three different ways you can customize your wedding dress to match your new wedding date.

Bridal Cape

Bridal capes are a quick and easy way to make a dramatic change to your wedding dress. Capes also work for every season of the year. For the fall and winter months, a cape offers comfort and warmth while adding that unexpected touch of fashion. Bridal capes are available in any fabric that wedding dresses are designed in. Florida brides typically gravitate towards a tulle or light lace bridal cape while brides in Northern states are known to wear capes that are designed in a thicker fabric like a crepe or silk. Bridal capes are also detachable so a bride can wear a cape for the ceremony and remove it for the reception.

Sleeves

Most brides don’t know this, but sleeves can be added to most (if not all) wedding dresses! Sleeves are an easy solution that will bring any dress from summer to winter. Sleeves are also available in any length, fabric, and design. From bell sleeves, bishop sleeves, and classic simple sleeves, there are endless sleeve styles that can be personalized to each bride’s liking. Sleeves can be added in alterations so brides who have a spring or summer-style wedding dress can completely transform their dress into a fall or winter dress.

Detachable Train and Over Skirt

While detachable trains and overskirts don’t bring warmth to a bride in the fall and winter months, it does add drama and style. Trains and skirts are the most sought-after accessory in bridal fashion right now. These accessory pieces can be added to any fitted dress and they are easily attached to a dress by buttons and loops. A bride can wear her wedding dress and detachable train or skirt down the aisle and remove it for the wedding reception as an unexpected wardrobe change. A detachable skirt or train completely transforms a mermaid or fitted style wedding dress by taking the shape of a ball gown! Your guests will be so surprised and think you wore two dresses!

We hope these three styling and customizing ideas bring excitement and inspiration to your wedding dress and new wedding date.
