Questions to Ask Your Wedding Venue

One of the first things that you will do when it comes to planning your wedding is selecting your wedding venue. With over 300 Central Florida wedding venues, you are sure to find the perfect one for your wedding. However, each venue will have its own rules and guidelines that come with renting the space. Besides the basics like, is my date available? or how many guest can the venue hold? There are several questions to ask your wedding venue. These answers will help you decide which wedding venue is right for your wedding celebration.

Check out our podcast episode below about this topic.

What is the rain plan?

No matter how much good luck they say it is, no couple wants rain on their wedding day. If you are wanting to have an outdoor ceremony, cocktail hour, or reception, ask the venue what their rain plan is for your wedding day. If it is an all-outdoor venue, you may want to reserve a tent just in case the weather goes downhill. Find out at what point (how many hours/days) and who makes the final call to go to the rain plan? You need to love your rain plan almost as much as your Plan A. If they don’t have a good option for you, don’t book.

Do we have you use your preferred vendors?

Most venues will have a preferred vendors list. This list has been created by the venue through experience with these vendors. They know their quality of service and are therefore recommending them to the couples that book the space. However, if you have your heart set on using a certain vendor that is not on the venue’s preferred list, check if this will be an issue. In some cases, this list is a suggestion, not a requirement but there may also be a fee if you decide to go outside their list.

Are there any noise ordinances?

A venue may be located in an area that has a strict noise ordinance, which may require you to shut down the party a little earlier than you’d like. If this is the case for the venue you want, you can always take the celebration to another location. There are wonderful locations in Greater Orlando for an after-wedding party!

Are there any planned renovations before or around the date of my wedding?

Nothing is more disappointing than falling in love with a certain part of a venue, then come your wedding day it is no longer there. Avoid these unnecessary surprises by asking the venue if there are going to be any changes made before or around your wedding date. This will help you decide if you still want to go with a venue before you have gotten too far into the planning process.

What’s the parking situation?

Depending on your guest count, parking can be a serious concern, especially if you having your wedding in a more congested area like Downtown Orlando. This isn’t to deter you. Ask the venue where the closest parking is, how many spaces are available, and if there is a cost for parking, is it included in the rental fee.

Can I have candles or sparklers?

If your dream wedding includes candle-covered guest tables, be sure your dream venue allows for open flames. For the venues that do allow candles, most will require that the candle is in some type of containment to reduce the fire hazard. This policy may also extend to sparklers. If it is not clearly stated, make sure to ask.

Where do most couples take photos?

At the end of the day, all you will have left are the photos and video of your wedding day. It’s always nice when your photographer has multiple photos opt locations. Also, if have an outdoor ceremony, be sure to make note of where the sun sets so that your photographer won’t be blinded when they are trying to get your first kiss.

Side Note: this will be important to provide your photographer so they can include it in your wedding day photography timeline.
