Elegant Bella Collina Wedding - Lisa and Donny
From Leah Langley Photography: Let's just say that Lisa and Donny's Bella Collina Wedding was magical. Everything from their love for each other to the joy that surrounded them was beautiful Lisa couldn't have picked a more amazing dress! Seeing her get ready with her sister, bridesmaids and flower girls was so sweet. Donny and Lisa's ceremony honored Donny's Hawaiian heritage with a Lei Exchange, performed by his Auntie Holli. They were handcrafted in Hawaii and sent over just for their day. The reception was a blast, and the band None Other kept the party going!
How did you two meet and/or what was your proposal story?
From bride, Lisa: Its funny when people hear what we do for work because you would think that this is how we met, but its not. I (Lisa) am a physician recruiter, specifically for Emergency Medicine physicians for a national staffing company and Donny is an Emergency Medicine physician that works for the same company. We both lived in Knoxville, TN at the time that we met and literally attended many of the same events, but never met. Both of us were interested in finding a more serious partner and had signed up for Match.com. After many failed matches, I had made the decision that I would go on one last date and that would be it if it didn't work. Donny was my last date! On our first date, we discovered that we both worked for the same company and literally had crossed paths many times. And the rest was history for us. We both say now that after that first couple of dates, we knew that we would marry each other.
After a year and half of dating, Donny proposed at his family's beach house on Captiva Island at Sunset surrounded by family and friends. Shortly after we got engaged, we moved to New York City for an once in a lifetime adventure that we both had dreamed of in our twenties, but never followed. Now, celebrating almost a year of marriage, we are moving to Orlando, Florida to be closer to family and start our family together!
Advice from Lisa, the bride:
What advice would you give other couples about the wedding planning process? Not to stress out too much. Everything comes together in the end. Most important part is that you and your spouse agree on major decisions, support each other's opinions and have fun! Also, we divided up different areas of the planning process that each of us would be responsible for. I knew Donny wasn't super excited about selecting flowers or linens, so I didn't stress him out about picking those out. But, he was involved in the reception music, cakes, and food we served. I got him involved and put him in charge of components of the wedding I knew he would appreciate having a say in and being in charge of. It worked for us to divide and conquer!
Is there any advice that you would give engaged couples about married life? Marriage is about comprising, communicating with each other (effectively) and having compassion for each other. Also, never let the sun go down when things are unsettled between the two of you. Last, love each other through everything and have fun in life together.
