Difference Between Wedding Style and Wedding Theme

Although a wedding style and a wedding theme are sometimes interchanged, they are not the same thing. Identifying these for your wedding will help when you are making design and detail decisions. Let’s look at the difference between wedding style and wedding theme.

What is a Wedding Style?

When you hear wedding style, this is referring to the overall aesthetic of the wedding design. Meaning the look and feel of the event. All weddings will have a wedding style. Are you going for a classic feel or are you looking for more bohemian vibes? There are color wedding palettes that lend themselves well to certain wedding styles. Blush and white with gold accents have long been a go-to color palette for classic weddings. While terracotta, rust, and neutral tones complement nicely with a bohemian wedding style.

The details that you include in your wedding will help determine your wedding style as well. We especially see this with rental pieces. As an example, French country chairs have long been a staple for a rustic wedding style. On the flip side, ghost chairs complement a modern wedding style perfectly.

What is a Wedding Theme?

While all weddings will have a wedding style, not all weddings will have a specific wedding theme. If a wedding style provides the overlooking look and feel of the wedding, a wedding theme dives deeper and focuses on a specific subject.

Although it certainly is not required, adding a theme to your wedding gives you the opportunity to showcase your personality as a couple and incorporate fun, unique wedding details.

Here are a few examples of wedding themes:

  • Eclectic wedding style with a travel theme
  • Vintage wedding style with a Roaring 20s theme
  • Bohemian wedding style with a Coachella Music Festival theme
  • Rustic wedding style with a Winter Wonderland theme
