Blue and Blush Garden Wedding at The Capen House

The moment Devon and Jose visited The Capen House at the Polasek Museum in Winter Park, Florida, they knew it was the perfect place for them to have their wedding. They used the outdoor garden space that the venue provided as the biggest piece of inspiration. With the dock overlooking Lake Osceola and the lush gardens, Devon and Jose exchanged their vows in front of all their closest family and friends.

To maintain the feeling of being in the gardens, while still being protected by chilly winds and any inclement
weather, a clear tent was used in the lakefront reception space. Greens, pinks, and whites transcended the guests’ tables and wedding cake, while varying hues of slate blue appeared in the bridesmaid dresses, creating a cohesive design look.

Devon and Jose wanted to ensure their guests felt comfortable and eliminated some wedding traditions, such as
removing the garter to create a more casual gathering feel. In fact, when asked what her favorite part of the day was, Devon responded, “having our friends and family meet one another for the first time!”

From Bride, Devon:
How did you meet?

“Jose and I met while we were both working. I used to work for Orlando City Soccer Club and Jose is a Project Manager for the company who built Exploria Stadium. I had complained about an HVAC duct making noise above my desk and my email made its way to Jose. While I was still working there, Jose used to come to as many games as he could just so he could see me, even though I was busy working.:

From Bride, Devon:
How did Jose propose?

“We had been dating for 2.5 years before Jose proposed to me at Enzo’s on the Lake in January 2020! We went to dinner at Enzo’s one night and while waiting for our table, we got some drinks at the bar and headed outside to the covered patio by the water. Jose took me by the hand and told me how perfect that day was and how he wants to have many more weekends like this for the rest of our lives and drop down on one knee. One of our good friends, Matt, was taking pictures of us as the proposal was happening, and when I finally said yes, we had our dinner and then celebrated with friends and family at Washburn Imports.”

From Bride, Devon:
What advice would you give other couples about the wedding planning process?

“Take it one day at a time! Planning can be very stressful and overwhelming, so just write everything down and tackle your to-do list. I personally took a whole week off just to work on small wedding details while also just trying to relax before the big day.”

Is there any advice that you would give engaged couples about married life?

“We’ve only been married for nearly 3 months now, but I would say that communication will always be an important to a successful marriage.”
