Questions Couples Never Ask Their Wedding Photographer But Should

Wedding photography usually ranks pretty high on couples list of priorities for their wedding. When it comes interviewing your wedding photographer, there are those questions that couples always ask, like how many photographers will be shooting my wedding or how long are you photographing but there are also questions that are just as important that couples never think to ask their potential photographers. In this episode, we are talking with Steve Miller of Steven Miller Photography about why these questions are so important.

Do You Have Back Up Equipment?

Weddings are fast moving events full of once in a lifetime moments. This is why you hire a wedding photographer so that you can relive all of these moments because of the quickness they pass. Due to the preciousness of these moments, you want to make sure that your photographer is prepared for anything and that includes equipment failure. You definitely don’t want to have only half of your wedding ceremony because the photographer’s camera failed or fell and broke. A professional photographer is prepared for situations like these and won’t miss a beat.

How Do You Back Up My Images?

As we mentioned, your wedding is full of memories you’ll want to cherish for years to come. However, how images are backed up is a question that Steve has never gotten from a couple in the nine years that he has been doing weddings. Again, just like with camera equipment, SD cards (the little card that holds all your photos) can have things happen to them. They can malfunction or accidentally get erased. You may not understand the process of how your photographer will protect your images, but knowing that there is a process is very important.

How Do you Manage a Wedding Timeline?

We can not understate how important a wedding day timeline is. From getting ready to your grand exit, there is a set timeline of what needs to happen when to make the day run smoothly. Of course, all your vendors need to know what is happening when, but for your photographer, it is extremely important. Things like first looks and family portraits take time and have to be worked in to make sure they flow with the day. Also, any special moments that you’d like photographed need to be discussed prior to the wedding. This way they can be worked into the timeline and you can have a stress-free wedding day!

Why Did You Become a Photographer?

Steve notes this question isn’t to get personal but more so is understand why they have a passion for what they do. He says, “if there’s just a beautiful reason why they love to capture weddings or events, that’s great. If they just truly have a passion for photography like me, Hey, that’s great! You will certainly feel that through your photographer during the consultation, or especially when you have your engagement session if you have your engagement session with them. But I just think it’s a really great question to make sure that they truly care.”
